**Choose Classic for a run with zones, guardians and a final shrine; choose Survival for an open-ended run judged by how long you last.** The current client states that **Survival has no difficulty selection and no victory state**. Classic's Normal/Hard/Nightmare choices should not be carried over into a Survival farming plan.

## Classic vs Survival at a glance

| Question | Classic | Survival |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What is the objective? | Advance through the map's zones, defeat guardians and finish its shrine encounter. | Last as long as possible through endless hordes and milestones. |
| Is there a normal win condition? | Yes, a completed run can be a victory. | No; it is a survival record rather than a map-clear victory. |
| Are Normal, Hard and Nightmare selectable? | Yes, subject to your unlocks. | No difficulty selector in the checked client. |
| What should a beginner practice? | Movement, upgrade choices and repeatable guardian fights. | Longer-run control, scaling pressure and a build that stays usable over time. |
| What distinguishes the leaderboard? | Clear/KO and time-related results, depending on the board. | Best survival time on the selected map; KOs break ties on the described time board. |

Neither mode is automatically “best Stardust per hour.” Run length, your progress, tasks and the settlement rules all matter. Compare your own repeatable results before committing to a farming claim.

## Which mode should a beginner play first?

Start with **Classic on Normal** in your first available map. A defined goal makes it easier to notice what ended the run: a weak opening attack, an unsafe route, a guardian pattern or an upgrade choice that did not help your moves.

Try a short plan rather than solving every system at once:

1. Choose a [starter role](https://pokebonk.co/guides/best-starter) you understand.
2. Practice [movement and aim](https://pokebonk.co/guides/controls) before spending every offer on a new attack.
3. Upgrade a useful main move while retaining room for the [fusion pair](https://pokebonk.co/guides/move-fusions) you intend to pursue.
4. Finish the run, check your [League challenge](https://pokebonk.co/guides/unlock-pokemon), and spend toward one [Lab upgrade](https://pokebonk.co/guides/lab).

This is an editorial learning route, not a measured fastest-clear build. You can switch once you know what you want to practice.

## What changes in Survival?

Survival uses open maps, endless hordes and milestones. The official descriptions also include hostile ground, regenerating altars and migration portals. A portal in Survival can mean new lands rather than the next Classic zone.

A build that clears an early crowd is not thereby proven to last indefinitely. The Season 2 notes say the horde continues accelerating after the first hour. Keep routes open, watch dangerous terrain and reassess how your damage and recovery behave as the run grows.

Survival does not offer a Hard or Nightmare multiplier to select in the checked mode menu. A statement about Classic difficulty rewards is not a reason to expect the same multiplier in Survival. For actual modifiers and build trade-offs, use the [combat mechanics guide](https://pokebonk.co/guides/combat-mechanics) and the [build guide](https://pokebonk.co/guides/best-builds).

## Difficulty, map unlocks and multiplayer

In Classic, choose among the difficulties and maps that your account has unlocked. **Mode**, **map** and **difficulty** are separate choices: unlocking a harder Classic setting does not turn Survival into that difficulty.

The Season 2 map path continues from Rocky Desert to **Storm Coast**, then **Celestial Glacier**. Follow the [Season 2 guide](https://pokebonk.co/guides/season-2) for the new-map and update context; use the live preparation screen to see what your account can enter.

Co-op is a separate room flow for Classic. A clan or shared leaderboard is not the same thing as being in a live battle with teammates. Room access and team eligibility can depend on live server policy; use the [co-op guide](https://pokebonk.co/guides/co-op) for the current preparation steps and version-specific rules.

## Where Lavender Tower fits

**Lavender Tower** is a separate event mode with floors and waves, not another difficulty of Classic or Survival. The current client says the Tower has no difficulty levels. Its event period, progression and rewards belong to the [Lavender Tower guide](https://pokebonk.co/guides/lavender-tower).

Keep these goals distinct when you plan a session: a Classic victory, a Survival time record, and a Tower floor result answer different questions. Our [Tier List](https://pokebonk.co/tier-list) judges general single-player League progression at similar Lab investment; it is not a separate ranking for every mode or co-op team.
