**Start with [pokebonk.com](https://pokebonk.com/) in a browser, then configure the handheld's controls.** Steam Deck owners report playing in Gaming Mode; Android and Windows community clients also exist. These are different ways to open the online game. We have not tested them on physical handhelds, measured FPS or audited their installers.

## Choose a route for your device

| Device | Starting route | Check before a long run |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Steam Deck / SteamOS | Test the official site in Desktop Mode, then add the browser to Steam. | Movement and camera at the same time; menu focus; readable UI. |
| Android handheld / AYN Thor | Test the official site in your normal browser with the controller connected. | Native gamepad detection versus a touch-mapping overlay. |
| Windows handheld / PC | Open the official site in your normal browser. | Controller bindings, fullscreen and the same account's progress. |
| Phone or tablet without a gamepad | Use the game's touch controls. | Joystick visibility and touch-button size; see the [mobile guide](https://pokebonk.co/guides/mobile). |

Treat the first short run as a compatibility check. Reaching the menu does not establish that later enemy waves, backgrounding or sleep/resume will work on that device.

## Steam Deck setup and a starting layout

1. Choose **Steam → Power → Switch to Desktop**. Valve describes Desktop Mode as a normal PC environment for browsers and other applications. See its [basic-use guide](https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/69E3-14AF-9764-4C28).
2. Open an installed browser, or install one using the desktop's software manager. Visit **[https://pokebonk.com/](https://pokebonk.com/)** and check loading and account access before configuring Gaming Mode.
3. Add that browser through Steam's **Add a Non-Steam Game** action. Return to Gaming Mode and launch its new library shortcut. Open the original URL in that browser; a browser shortcut does not install a separate game build.
4. Edit the shortcut's controller layout. First choose either the game's detected gamepad controls or a keyboard/mouse mapping. Test that route before adding another input layer.
5. Start a short Classic run. Move while rotating the camera, open and close a menu, interact and use Jump and Ultimate. If these fail, fix the input path before committing to Survival.

Here is an **editorial keyboard/mouse layout to try**, not a verified universal preset:

| Deck input | Map to | Purpose |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Left stick | WASD | Movement |
| Right stick or trackpad | Mouse | Camera / pointer |
| RT | Left mouse click | Menu selection |
| A | Space | Jump |
| X | E | Interact |
| Y | R | Ultimate |
| B | Shift | Slide |
| One rear button | Esc | Pause / back |

The game can remap actions in **Settings → Keys**. Check the displayed binding after saving. Reserve an easy way to select menu cards and recover the pointer; a layout that moves the character but cannot close a menu is incomplete. See the full [controls reference](https://pokebonk.co/guides/controls).

The [Steam Deck community thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1xgxauy/pokebonk_runs_well_on_deck/) describes a Brave shortcut with kiosk options and also discusses Heroic. Reports disagree about camera/movement and scaling. Its launch arguments depend on the installed browser package; use that thread as a report to compare, not a performance guarantee or a command to paste into every installation.

## Android handhelds and AYN Thor

Try the normal browser route first. Connect the controller before opening the game, press a gamepad button and check the in-game guide. If the interface is wrong, review **Settings → Controls → Touch controls**; use the [mobile guide](https://pokebonk.co/guides/mobile) for the choices and graphics settings.

The [AYN Thor community launcher](https://github.com/alfonsopuicercus/pokebonk-thor-launcher) loads the official website and provides direct controller input. Its documentation calls it a community preview requiring internet and Android 8+ with a WebGL-capable WebView. It also documents **Start + Select → Controller diagnostics → Release all inputs** and a session separate from Chrome. These are the maintainer's claims, not our device tests.

If you choose that route, follow its repository's current installation instructions and release page. Keep its native gamepad mode separate from touch-mapping overlays. Before switching, open the existing browser session and use [Save to account](https://pokebonk.co/guides/save-progress); then verify the expected progress inside the destination. Do not uninstall the old environment while it holds the only copy of guest progress.

## Windows browser and community client

A Windows handheld can start with the same official browser URL and in-game gamepad settings. Check the game's own bindings before assuming its buttons match a Steam Input preset or an Android wrapper.

The [Windows community client](https://github.com/zoga2o3-ops/pokebonk-desktop) describes itself as an unofficial Electron window around the original site. Its README lists **F10 or Start + Select** for app options and **F11** for fullscreen. We have reviewed its documentation, not installed or audited the executable. A wrapper's fullscreen window does not establish an FPS improvement or an offline mode.

## Fix stuck movement, camera and missing progress

| Symptom | Checks to try |
| --- | --- |
| Character keeps moving after releasing a stick | Pause, release every input and refocus the game. Check whether both native gamepad and keyboard/touch emulation are active. Test one route at a time. |
| Moving the camera stops movement | Reproduce with a short left-stick + right-stick test. Compare the browser in Desktop and Gaming Mode; record which input layout causes it. Community Deck reports describe this problem, but do not establish one fix for every setup. |
| Touch buttons remain with a controller | Review Touch controls and reconnect/re-detect the controller. Do not assume visible touch buttons mean native input is unavailable. |
| UI is too large or clipped | Reset browser zoom, then adjust scaling gradually. Keep upgrade cards, Back and interaction prompts reachable. |
| New app shows an empty account | Return to the old session and check account versus guest status. Confirm the same account in the destination before clearing any data. |
| Lag or unreadable effects | Try Low quality, an FPS cap and lower attack opacity separately. These are troubleshooting options, not measured performance gains. |

The official **v0.8.60** notes report fixes for Android edge-back and a stuck joystick; they also add controller **L3** to release a fallen Alpha and **Select** for the map without pausing. Check the loaded game version when following an older controller report. [Official notes](https://pokebonk.com/assets/defineProperty-CGpGi5J6-mvr5gbc0.js).

For a useful bug report, record the device, OS, browser/WebView or wrapper version, loaded game version, input layout and exact reproduction steps. Never include passwords or session tokens. For general loading issues, use [troubleshooting](https://pokebonk.co/guides/troubleshooting).

## Sources and checks

Checked **October 28, 2026**. Device-specific statements are attributed to the linked Valve documentation, community thread and launcher READMEs. Game control settings use our **v0.8.46** static reference with the explicit **v0.8.60** changes above. This is a setup and troubleshooting guide; no Steam Deck, AYN Thor or Windows handheld compatibility certification, installer audit or benchmark was performed.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is there an official Steam Deck or Windows download?

This guide starts with the official browser game at pokebonk.com. The Android and Windows launchers linked here are community projects; a Steam browser shortcut also opens the online game.

### Will a community client import my browser guest save?

Do not assume it will. Save the original session to an account, then verify that account and its progress in the destination before deleting or clearing the old environment.
