Gengar on the third map
Kurindie uses a multi-type Special route on Hard Storm Coast, including Spectral Parade and a later decision to keep Shadow Ball and Sludge Wave separate.

Build useful Special attacks first, then decide when Gloomy Curse improves the run. Gastly starts with Physical Lick, so the opening and the finished Ghost setup need different upgrade decisions.

Playstyle and trade-offs
This is a ranged Ghost damage route with status synergy. It suits players comfortable surviving a transition and making room for later attacks. The Ghost passive adds defensive help but is not invulnerability. The route’s main cost is slot and damage-class management: investing only in Lick can leave later Special attacks unsupported.
Requirements before the run
Recruit Gastly and complete its later capture before selecting this line. The League challenge is 600 elemental reactions in one run; this Gengar route is not a prerequisite for unlocking Gastly itself. See the challenge walkthrough. Gengar is the evolved line, and a shiny form is optional.
Plan for Shadow Ball from player level 4 and Hex from level 7. Lick plus those two attacks fills three slots. Night Shade from level 2 can help earlier, but with three slots you must weigh that immediate value against reserving the pair. A fourth Lab slot gives extra room. None of the offer levels guarantees the move.
Move order and formation
Gastly's line opens with Lick, a Physical attack. Later Ghost attacks in the planned route are Special. The Ghost passive reduces damage taken and adds evasion in the checked definition, but it does not make Gengar immune to contact or Boss damage.
- Use Lick to survive the opening. Avoid choosing every early upgrade solely for Lick if your intended damage will come from Special attacks.
- Night Shade becomes eligible at player level 2 and provides an early Special option. With only three slots, taking it means choosing between immediate coverage and space for both planned inputs; the fourth move slot removes that particular constraint.
- Keep Shadow Ball from player level 4 and Hex from level 7 when offered.
- Both inputs at move level 8 can become Gloomy Curse. The checked fusion applies curse and includes a follow-up that hits status-affected targets harder. Keep a functioning status source; “two Ghost attacks” alone is not an elemental-reaction build.
- After fusing, fill the freed slot only if the new attack addresses a real gap. Improve your working Ghost coverage while keeping enough movement and protection for guardians.
Wise Glasses supports Special damage. Quick Claw, Scope Lens and Razor Claw can support frequency or critical hits; compare their offers with a needed defensive choice. Choice Specs adds Special damage but reduces attack speed in the checked configuration, so inspect the trade-off rather than treating the item as an automatic upgrade. Luck is not a substitute for attacks reaching enemies or a working status setup.
When Hex is missing: keep the useful Special attacks you already have. A coherent unfused kit can be a reasonable stopping point. Unlocking Gastly requires a separate 600 elemental reactions in one run challenge; playing Gengar is the reward after the unlock and capture process, not the way a new account must begin it. See League unlocks.
Items and upgrade priorities
| Need | Useful direction | What can go wrong |
|---|---|---|
| Improve the planned Special core | Wise Glasses and Special upgrades | Lick is Physical; one damage class does not serve every move. |
| Improve attack frequency | Quick Claw | Check the current cooldown floor. |
| Add a stronger Special item | Choice Specs when its trade suits the run | It reduces attack speed. |
| Add critical support | Scope Lens or Razor Claw | Compare the gain with needed survival or coverage. |
| Maintain a status setup | An equipped move or item that actually applies the relevant status | Ghost typing alone is not an elemental reaction. |
Luck can be part of a run’s choices, but it does not replace hits, status application or a working attack. Stabilize the core before taking speculative upgrades.
How to farm and collect experience
Opening: make room for Lick without deliberately trading HP for every pack. Move around the outer edge and collect from a safe side. When Night Shade is an available useful choice, judge the current pressure rather than following a rigid future shopping list.
During the Special transition: keep packs in the reach and aim of the attacks you actually equipped. Use lateral passes through open ground; do not stop in a crowd to wait for a cooldown. Collect experience after creating a gap, not by retracing the path of the following pack.
With a status-capable core: maintain a real status source and allow follow-up hits on affected targets. Use target lock for a priority threat when appropriate, then reassess normal aiming for the surrounding wave. An apparently dense effect on screen is not proof that attacks are connecting.
Bosses and late waves
Keep the guardian in view and preserve lateral space outside its warnings. Read the actual target’s status behavior instead of assuming ordinary-enemy control lasts equally on a Boss. Use Ultimate in a window where you can keep landing attacks, while staying ready to dodge.
Late waves can punish tunnel vision on a single target. Drop that focus when surrounding enemies close the route. The passive’s damage reduction and evasion are a buffer, not a reason to stay inside contact damage.
Missing pieces and common mistakes
If Hex never appears, keep a complete Special setup that is already clearing. You can postpone fusion when separate moves provide useful coverage or the new choice would remove a needed status source. Two ready inputs are an option, not an obligation.
When the build feels weak, check the attacks’ damage classes, real hit coverage, the status source and cooldown before blaming a lack of luck. This guide is an editorial route, not a claim to reproduce every item or result in the linked creator run.
What the embedded run does differently
Kurindie’s embedded run uses a flexible, multi-type Special damage plan on Hard Storm Coast. The points below summarize selected original Portuguese captions; timings can drift slightly. This is creator narration, not a frame-by-frame playtest by this site.
| Around | Decision in the run | What to take from it |
|---|---|---|
| 00:18 | Prepares Archive and removes items that do not fit the planned Special route. | Compare the preparation with your own unlocks before copying an established account’s exclusions. |
| 04:06 | Explains choosing more enemy pressure as part of an early-growth plan. | Treat increased pressure as a risk choice after checking that current attacks can keep up. |
| 15:56 | Chooses Spectral Parade and explains removing Physical Lick from the active setup. | A fusion can serve the damage-class transition as well as free space. |
| 38:48 | Lowers attack opacity to regain visibility. | Keep route hazards visible when effects become dense. |
| 47:20 | Declines another fusion because Shadow Ball and Sludge Wave are already important damage sources, and the offered result could be Physical. | Preserve effective moves when the proposed result no longer matches the build. |
The Shadow Ball + Hex → Gloomy Curse recipe above is an option from the checked game definitions. The video illustrates a broader Special route, including a generic Ghost fusion and a decision to keep other attacks separate. Use it to follow the creator’s reasoning rather than expecting the same fixed pair in every run. We have not independently confirmed the numerical damage, critical-cap or probability claims spoken in the video.
Sources and scope
Checked October 28, 2026. Move kits, shared-offer gates, these fusion identities and item definitions were checked as static text in the official v0.8.62 / mvr5gbc0 client and configuration, against the separately versioned v0.8.25 combat baseline. The movement and farming steps here are editorial applications, not a recorded playtest, DPS test or fastest-clear claim. The related creator video illustrates the topic; its finished loadout does not guarantee the same offers or result. See sources and fusion rules.
Frequently asked questions
Can I unlock Gastly by first playing Gengar?
Gastly must already be recruited to select this evolution line. Complete the 600-reaction challenge with an available partner, then capture Gastly later.
Should every early upgrade support Physical Lick?
No. The planned later core is Special, so compare the immediate need with that transition.
Does the video reproduce the Gloomy Curse pair exactly?
The embedded run follows a flexible multi-type Special route, chooses Spectral Parade and later keeps Shadow Ball and Sludge Wave separate. The guide’s signature pair is a checked recipe option, not a claim that every creator run uses it.
